Tim’s  work as a CFP Professional has been most proficient working with Newfoundland and Labrador pension members entering the Retirement stage of their life. I enjoy sitting in an informal environment, to uncover my client's most desired dreams. I ask many discovery questions in uncovering their goals.   Once the discovery process is complete, I complete an estimate of commuted value and retirement plans comparing the members retirement options. This leads to the pension members making an informed decision. Best of all, these consultations are free!

Quite simply, Tim's clients’ needs come first. In fact, for the past 25 years clients view Tim not simply as a financial advisor, but as their partner in life’s financial journey. This relationship is built through trust and hard work!

My Story-Beautiful Newfoundland a Tangled Tale!


I love serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador! They are some of the friendliest and most interesting people I have met in my travels. I am in fact a Come-From-Away. I am proud to be a transplanted Main-lander, to the Beautiful ROCK! It is indeed a wonderful "Tangled Tale"!

My story began in New Brunswick, but that was only the beginning of my journey, I answered the call to travel to Newfoundland, to visit my brother, and met the love of my life, Sherri and decided to settle.


Deciding not to return to my studies at UNB, I answered an ad to work with an accident and sickness company. I knocked door to door, for approximately 2 years, knocking the doors of whole communities, week in week out, living out of a suitcase away from my Family. This took a thick skin, and I will admit some pains in my chest and stomach at times, but the wonderful people of Newfoundland are very welcoming, and that is what got me through this difficult time. I was selling a lot but wasn’t getting the success my efforts deserved.

During this time, Sherri and I were delighted to find out we were going to be expanding our Family, 10 months later, our first bundle of joy Lucas was born. When I saw that beautiful face looking up at me for the very first time, I knew I could no longer be away from home!

Back to the books, for my investment license, life insurance license and financial planning designations. I was  determined to obtain the knowledge necessary, not only to change my Family’s financial outlook, but to help as many NL families as possible. I am very happy to report that I have managed to affect the lives of many hundreds of the Rock's finest in a positive way, I hear it from my clients often, which is very satisfying

During my last year of getting through my grueling studies and obtaining my CFP designation in January 2003, while working to support my Family, our second bundle of joy, Brady was born. This made it even more important to work hard and succeed for my Family. I wanted Sherri to stay home and raise our children, which we owe to her, the wonderful young men they are today!

I can’t say it has been easy, but it has been complete pleasure.

Through the deep downturns in the stock markets during the 2000s, what has been most enjoyable, is the trust my clients have placed in me. My clients deserve all the credit for staying fully invested, and in many cases investing more, during this extreme volatility and uncertainty. They listened to sound reasoning and used the past as a guide to lead them forward. I admit, this can be the most difficult part of investing, psychology. Keeping an even keel in stormy waters.

It has been a complete pleasure, meeting the many hundreds, in fact thousands of people in this beautiful place, over the past 25 years. Finance has been a wonderful gift in my life. I believe it is the one industry that can provide a huge positive affect on a person’s life. Thanks for listening to my story!

Vern is an Honors Business Administration graduate from Brock University. During his university career he lived in St. Catharines, and ran a successful small business while attending school. Immediately upon graduation he began his working career with a major Canadian insurance company as an advisor and has never looked back. He joined Manulife Financial in 1998 and has held several roles marketing insurance product working with independent financial advisors and, planning with clients. Vern has worked with top financial advisors across Southwestern Ontario as a regional marketing specialist helping advisors grow their insurance practices. In 2009 Vern joined Manulife Securities as the National Insurance Specialist. He currently works with top investment advisors across the country.

Vern obtained his Certified Financial Planners (CFP) designation in 2001. He has also obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. Vern is life insurance licenced in almost all the provinces in Canada. He is a member of Advocis as well as CALU.

Vern's focus will be on providing tax and estate planning solutions for clients through new, innovative uses of insurance contracts. He has over 20 years of sophisticated planning experience. Vern loves golf and hockey, and grew up playing goal. He was always the last line of defense for his hockey team.
